These wallbox subsidies will be available in 2024
The number of e-cars on German roads is increasing rapidly. From 2035, newly registered vehicles in Germany will no longer be allowed to emit CO 2 according to legal regulations. As a result, more and more people are switching to electric mobility – and buying a wallbox in the process. So far, the federal government has supported investments in the mobility transition with subsidies – but these are now being dropped.
Wallbox funding 2024
Originally, it was planned to relaunch the wallbox subsidy program from March 2024 with 200 million euros from the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). The program was launched in 2023 to support e-car owners with their own homes. However, no further funding is now available for 2024, as the expansion of the charging infrastructure is being prioritized. In 2023, funding of 300 million euros was made available, but it was used up after just a few hours. However, subsidies that have already been committed will continue to be fully financed.
From March 2024, private households that took advantage of the wallbox subsidy in 2023 will have to prove that they have implemented the subsidised measures in accordance with KfW requirements. After the successful verification, the money will be transferred. The funded overall system must be used for at least six years.
The nationwide KfW wallbox subsidy has expired
On 26.09.2023, the KfW subsidy "Solar power for electric cars (442)" was introduced for private individuals. They could receive a subsidy of up to 10,200 euros if they bought and installed a wallbox, a photovoltaic system and a stationary solar storage system together. The goal was to charge electric cars at home with self-generated solar power and thus make a contribution to electromobility and grid stability. To be eligible for funding, you had to prove a combination package consisting of an existing or ordered e-car, a new wallbox, a new electricity storage system and a new solar system on the roof. The amount of the subsidy depended on the services or capacities of the individual components.
With a private wallbox in front of the house or in the garage, you can conveniently charge your e-car overnight at home.
The KfW grant 440 subsidy for private wallboxes that belong to a residential building and are used exclusively for private purposes has also expired. The same happened to the promotion of commercial charging infrastructure via KfW 441, which was launched in November 2021 after the end of the first funding programme for private wallboxes to support the construction of charging stations in companies.
The demand for the purchase of a wallbox is higher than ever before.

The list contains only a selection of the funding programmes that exist in the individual federal states and/or cities. It is therefore worthwhile to look specifically for grant opportunities in your own region. It is often even possible to combine several programs – for example, with a subsidy for the purchase of an electric car, a subsidy for your own photovoltaic system, for example on your carport.
